The Bombers preferred contact mouthpiece

March 2nd, 2021

The Bombers preferred contact mouthpiece is part of the new moulded range of bits from Bombers. It has cylindrical sides, and is flat through the middle section. The cylindrical sides flex onto the bars (the interdental area) at the bottom of the horse’s jaw; the flattened centre section bends over the tongue.

The tongue pad in the centre of the Bombers preferred contact mouthpiece is an elongated circle, flattened and angled at 45 degrees to sit flush against the tongue and palate. The articulated ribs on either side of the tongue pad allow the cylindrical sides some independence, and the tongue pad some stability.

Which horse is this suitable for?

The preferred contact mouthpiece has been specifically designed for cases where Bombers’ tongue relief methods have not worked, and some form of tongue pressure must be considered.

The Bombers philosophy always tries to distribute and spread the pressure, especially away from sensitive areas; however, with some horses, this is not always preferred. The preferred contact is considered to be a good option for the horse that objects to metal, or for when you have tried every kind of bit without luck!

There are over thirty cheekpiece styles available for the Bombers preferred contact, which we can order for you. They include all of the most popular cheekpieces, such as eggbutt, loose ring, fulmer, dee, kimblewick, 3 ring and 2½ ring.

Prices start at £90 for the loose ring.

As with all of Bombers’ steel components, the cable core and cheek piece will be covered by the manufacturer’s lifetime guarantee. This does not extend to materials that can be chewed, e.g. the outer mouthpiece, however.
